SOLVING KASHMIR-2

EXCERPTS

BY

......I FONDLY RECALL MY CHILDHOOD DAYS ,WHEN   IN THE MID FIFTIES, I CROSSED THE BANIHAL PASS   IN A BUS, WHICH SEEMED TO STRUGGLE UP THE STEEP SLOPES WITH DIVINE ASSISTANCE.

......AS A YOUNG OFFICER, I WAS RECUPERATING IN SRINAGAR MILITARY HOSPITAL AFTER A HELICOPTER CRASH. ON AN OUT PASS, I VISITED NEHRU GARDEN ON CRUTCHES, WHERE SOME OLD LADIES WERE SELLING FRUITS.ALMOST ALL OF THEM OFFERED ME FRUITS AND WISHED ME A SPEEDY RECOVERY.IN RETURN, WHEN I TOOK OUT MONEY, THEY SIMPLY REFUSED TO ACCEPT IT,STROKED MY CHIN WITH LOVE AND SAID" ALLAH WILL LOOK AFTER YOU! WHEN YOU GO BACK HOME, PAY OUR SALAAM TO YOUR PEOPLE IN INDIA".

......THIS POIGNANT SENTENCE SPOKEN SO MANY YEARS AGO BROUGHT HOME TO ME THE FEELING OF SEPARATION OF THE KASHMIRI PEOPLE,FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD AND THE GREAT 'KASHMIRIAT 'THAT IS HOLDING THE VALLEY TOGETHER.

...... I HOPE AND PRAY THAT AMAYA OUR DARLING GRAND DAUGHTER, WHO HAS BROUGHT US LUCK AND HAPPINESS, WILL SEE A DEFINITE SOLUTION TO J & K IMBROGLIO IN HER LIFE TIME.
